Nel 1896, chiamato dal fratello Vittore, giunge a San Martino anche Giovanni Toffol (1859-1939), che inizia subito ad edificare un proprio albergo, chiamandolo Hotel Pensione Cimone. Presto la struttura viene ampliata e dotata di tutti comfort, sulla scia delle esigenze della ricca e nobile clientela: come per gli altri alberghi della località, viene dotata di una dependance, l’Hotel San Martino, all’imbocco nord del paese. Giovanni, sposato con Carolina Gentilli, da cui discende l’altro ramo della casata presente in paese, intravede le potenzialità del settore turistico e manda i figli, ad imparare l’arte dell’ospitalità nei migliori alberghi d’oltralpe. I due fratelli Toffol pongono le basi di quella che sarà la definitiva impronta della casata sul futuro turistico di San Martino di Castrozza: prima dell’arrivo di nuovi soggetti, la parte alta del paese sarà infatti dominata dalle loro strutture, come si può ben vedere dalle fotografie d’epoca. Nel primo dopoguerra l’Hotel verrà ricostruito con una pianta più squadrata, ma aggraziata dalla presenza di un erker angolare verso il paese. Negli anni ’50 un disastroso incendio lo distrugge completamente. La ricostruzione che ne seguì fu uno degli interventi architettonici più sconvolgenti che il paese dovette subire nel corso della sua storia.

1896 wandelte Giovanni Toffol auf die Spuren seines Bruders Vittore und kam nach San Martino, wo er gleich damit anfing, ein eigenes Hotel, das Hotel Pensione Cimone, aufzubauen. Das Haus wurde nach kurzer Zeit ausgebaut und, den reichen und adligen Gästen entsprechend, mit allem Komfort ausgestattet. Eine Dependance, das Hotel San Martino, wurde am nördlichen Dorfrand errichtet. Giovanni und seine Frau Carolina Gentilli, aus dessen Ehe der andere Zweig der heutigen Familie Toffol stammt, hatten die zukünftige touristische Entwicklung dieser Ortschaft erahnt und schickten ihre Kinder zur Ausbildung in die renommierten Hotels jenseits der Alpen.

Die Brüder Toffol galten als die echten Initiatoren des Tourismus in San Martino. Wie es auf den alten Bildern deutlich zu sehen ist, war der höhere Teil des Dorfes – vor der Ankunft der neuen Unternehmer - von ihren Hotels beherrscht.

Nach dem ersten Weltkrieg wurde das Hotel mit einer rechteckigeren Form als vorher neu gebaut, die jedoch durch einen eleganten Erker geschmückt war. In den fünfziger Jahren wurde es durch einen Brand völlig zerstört. Das Gebäude, das an dessen Stelle aufgebaut wurde, gilt als eines der scheußlichsten Bauwerke in der Geschichte des Dorfes.

In 1896, called by his brother Vittore, also Giovanni Toffol (1859 – 1939) comes to San Martino and immediately starts to build his own hotel, naming it Hotel Pension Cimone. The edifice is soon enlarged and provided with every new feature as the new and rich customers demanded; like many other hotels in the area, it is provided with a hotel-annex, the Hotel San Martino, at the north entrance of the village.

Giovanni, married to Carolina Gentili (from them comes the other branch of the family present in San Martino), foresees the touristic business’ potential and sends his sons to learn the hospitality’s art in the best hotels in Austria. The Toffol brothers ground the final imprint of the family to the touristic future of San Martino; before the arrival of other prominent figures, the high area of the village will be towered by their buildings, as you can see in the period post cards.

In the period after World War I the hotel will be rebuilt with a square plan, but refined by the presence of a bow-window toward the village. In the 50s a devastating fire destroys it completely. The following rebuilding was one of the most devastating architectural works that the village had to endure during its history.
